RESTORATION VILLAGE
HOSTED BY THE FOLK OF GLOUCESTER
Take a trip down the The Folk and learn all about car restoration!
WHAT'S ON
The Folk of Gloucester are bringing a whole new hot spot of activity to Gloucester Goes Retro! Working with partners from Retroclassic Engineering, we will be shining a light on restoring cars, from advising about paint techniques and metalworking to seeing some work in progress.
The Restoration village starts outside Shire Hall with a varied collection of classic vehicles from all over the world, it’s a fantastic opportunity to understand the restoration journey and speak to some of the team that make it happen.
There will also be fun activities on the street such as guessing the number of balloons in a car and a chance to try and buy some fantastic Retro Fudge.
Mel Glass will also be riding around on his Penny Farthing and answering any questions you may have.
On Shire Hall steps there will be live entertainment from 12:30pm.
The fun doesn’t stop at Westgate street, continue along to the Folk of Gloucester where the fun continues.
Kindly Sponsored by Retroclassic Engineering, Community Artist Ally Goff is bringing a racing theme to our children’s activities.
Children will be able to make chequer flags and get to dress up like a race winner with Laurel and Cup for photos and Selfies.
Alongside the Children’s activities we also have the fantastic Model Restoration Train Yard, come and see this 6ft foot working model inspired by the reclamation yard in Barry.
There will also be a representative from the Showman’s Guild displaying some of their fantastic fairground models.
In the courtyard, we will be displaying some of the cars that are currently being restored. With timed workshops teaching you about the best polishing techniques and giving an insight into metalworking.
The Folk Café and Bar will be open and offering a great selection of Retro Food and Local Beers and Ciders. Our Resident DJ will be providing the sounds of the 50’s and 60’s to relax to and enjoy our Courtyard Garden.
ABOUT RETROCLASSIC Engineering
Retroclassic Engineering Ltd was founded through a passion for classic cars and all things retro. They take pride in restoring and re-imagining the cars to the highest of standards.
At Retroclassic, their main goal is to provide a transparent, honest, and friendly service to fellow lovers of older and more interesting vehicles, provide clear and detailed explanations to ensure their customers understand each step of the process, and to carry out repair and restoration work of the highest quality, without compromise.
Originally starting out as just a mechanical workshop, with a focus on restoration and engine building/tuning, they soon discovered that there was a gap in the market locally for a business that could complete the whole restoration process from start to finish without the need for any outsourcing.
Every vehicle of a 'certain age' has the potential to need an extensive mechanical and bodywork overhaul (regardless of what they are booked in for!). This is especially true for those that have lived in the glorious British climate for their entire life an suffered from significant bodywork corrosion.
To allow Retroclassic to manage every crucial step of the restoration process from one site, they soon expanded to incorporate a dedicated metal fabrication shop and separate the paint/body shop at their main site in Gloucester. They firmly believe that taking care of all stages of work in-house is the only way to guarantee the quality of the works carried our and ensure that the vehicle is restored to last.
